Here is an update on my DIY Chalk Paint Project. I started out with three small tables that were all different shades. I decided to start with just painting the bases my pretty Bali Bliss teal color. I’m still undecided what color to do on the tops..maybe I’ll just do black. I was given two of the tables and the smallest one was a really cheap purchase from Target so at least I’m not too worried if it turns into a hot mess! 🙂

I’ve found a new DIY project that I’m really excited to try- DIY Chalk Paint! I think the most popular brand that people use is the Ann Sloan chalk paint brand but after talking to my sister she let me in on a little “not so well kept” secret- You can make your own chalk paint for wayyyy cheaper than name brands. You just use Plaster of Paris, Hot Water, Finishing Wax and your Paint! Super Easy! Here is recipe I found online and you are able to use this paint on almost any surface with no primer…wood, metal, glass, vinyl, leather, fabric.

I’m still trying to decide what my colors should be but here are a few pictures that I’m using for inspiration.

I have already purchased 2 BEHR Premium Plus Flat Paint samples for $2.95 each in a a dark yellow and a teal color. I also purchased my Plaster of Paris for $9.95 and my Miniwax Finishing Wax for around $9 all at Home Depot. The process seams pretty simple, you mix your recipe, paint the item, wax, then sand for a distressed look if desired. (no priming usually needed). I’ll let you know how it turns our with some pics soon! Have a great day! ~Hope
July 1st will mark the end of our first year here in California! There is something about milestones like this that make me get reflective on what I have or haven’t accomplished. Looking back over the last year I can’t help but wish that I had spent a little extra time investing in my future. Maybe taken some classes, or gone out for a job that I had to reach for or was a little intimidating to apply for. Well enough is enough! 🙂 Today I’m going to take some active steps to make sure that next year ends with a few less regrets a lot more celebrating!
Here is a great motivational video that correlates exactly to what I’m talking about. I found this video through a blog and thought it was a great “kick in the pants”. Enjoy…
The Grand Canyon South Rim
Happy Wednesday! We just got back from our Anniversary Road Trip yesterday so I thought I would share how it went. Our trip ended up including dinner in Las Vegas, touring the Hoover Dam, swimming in Lake Mead, staying on the historic Route 66, and then hiking the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was a wonderful, wonderful trip! We loved celebrating our first year by bringing in the next year with some awesome unforgettable memories. My most favorite part about our trip was probably the Grand Canyon. It is just so breathtaking. I’ve always looked at pictures of it but it’s something you just have to see in person to fully comprehend how massive it is. The Hoover Dam was also amazing to see in person, it really makes you appreciate how genius engineers must be.
TIPS IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON TAKING THIS TRIP
Vegas: Book a show ahead of time to see in Las Vegas-maybe a dinner and a show would have been fun. We ended up eating in the Stratosphere that overlooks the city but it was crazy expensive! Continue reading
We finally decided what to do to celebrate our first anniversary. We’re going to take a 3 day road trip and drive to the Hoover Dam, stay a night there in Henderson, Nevada then drive over to Williams, Arizona near the Grand Canyon and explore for the next 2 days! I’m so happy that we are finally taking a California/Nevada/Arizona Road Trip! It will be our first since we’ve moved out here. The Grand Canyon has been on my destination list for a while now so I’m pretty excited. I’ll be sure to share some pictures on my instagram.
Have a Great Weekend!
Hola! Mine and my husband’s one year anniversary is this coming Sunday and as I was googling..”one year anniversary gifts” I came upon this great idea to put a map onto a canvas or poster board and then put pushpins or flags or whatever on all of the places that you have visited together. It’s a great reminder of the memories you’ve made together. It will also look pretty on your wall…hopefully.
So here is my experience as I walk you through the “how to” Continue reading
Sorry I’ve been a little MIA the last few weeks. I was a bit sad after leaving my family in Georgia to come home to California but I think I’m finally over it again 🙂 I always thought I was one of the “tough” ones who could move anywhere and be happy but being so far away from our families can be really hard sometimes. In Lou of our one year anniversary June 16th I’m showing a clip of our wedding. I like to watch it because it reminds me why it’s worth being homesick sometimes.
