The Grand Canyon South Rim
Happy Wednesday! We just got back from our Anniversary Road Trip yesterday so I thought I would share how it went. Our trip ended up including dinner in Las Vegas, touring the Hoover Dam, swimming in Lake Mead, staying on the historic Route 66, and then hiking the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was a wonderful, wonderful trip! We loved celebrating our first year by bringing in the next year with some awesome unforgettable memories. My most favorite part about our trip was probably the Grand Canyon. It is just so breathtaking. I’ve always looked at pictures of it but it’s something you just have to see in person to fully comprehend how massive it is. The Hoover Dam was also amazing to see in person, it really makes you appreciate how genius engineers must be.
TIPS IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON TAKING THIS TRIP
Vegas: Book a show ahead of time to see in Las Vegas-maybe a dinner and a show would have been fun. We ended up eating in the Stratosphere that overlooks the city but it was crazy expensive! Continue reading
We finally decided what to do to celebrate our first anniversary. We’re going to take a 3 day road trip and drive to the Hoover Dam, stay a night there in Henderson, Nevada then drive over to Williams, Arizona near the Grand Canyon and explore for the next 2 days! I’m so happy that we are finally taking a California/Nevada/Arizona Road Trip! It will be our first since we’ve moved out here. The Grand Canyon has been on my destination list for a while now so I’m pretty excited. I’ll be sure to share some pictures on my instagram.
Have a Great Weekend!
Hola! Mine and my husband’s one year anniversary is this coming Sunday and as I was googling..”one year anniversary gifts” I came upon this great idea to put a map onto a canvas or poster board and then put pushpins or flags or whatever on all of the places that you have visited together. It’s a great reminder of the memories you’ve made together. It will also look pretty on your wall…hopefully.
So here is my experience as I walk you through the “how to” Continue reading
Sorry I’ve been a little MIA the last few weeks. I was a bit sad after leaving my family in Georgia to come home to California but I think I’m finally over it again 🙂 I always thought I was one of the “tough” ones who could move anywhere and be happy but being so far away from our families can be really hard sometimes. In Lou of our one year anniversary June 16th I’m showing a clip of our wedding. I like to watch it because it reminds me why it’s worth being homesick sometimes.
Happy Belated Mother’s Day! We are currently still in Atlanta for my little sister’s graduation. It has been a whirlwind of a trip. We flew from San Diego to Atlanta, which was a five hour flight, then the very next day we drove from Atlanta to Jackson, Mississippi for my sister’s college graduation. It was a great time spent with my family and I actually quite enjoyed the long car ride there because it meant we were forced to talk to each other 🙂
Here is most of my “little” family with the graduate
It has been a great trip so far and being home has been such a treat for us.
How was your Mother’s Day? Any graduations on your horizon?
Do you ever just wake up some days and actually WANT to cook? Maybe make some of your favorite deserts or your favorite comfort food dish? Well today was one of those days for me. I actually started making a lasagna for tonight at 9:30 this morning..and as soon as I was done with that I started making a home-made pumpkin pie to go along with it…mmmm. I just love pumpkin pies, the spiciness to them and the way they fill your house with smells of Thanksgiving. It’s quite a shame that my husband doesn’t really care for them but I guess that just means more pie for me! 🙂
I know pumpkin pies don’t necessarily “go” with lasagna but it’s hard to not enjoy eating two of your favorite foods in one day.
Cheers to your favorite foods!
What are your favorite foods to make?
Summers here where we live can be outrageously hot (it reaches up to 115) so a lot of people from our small town head up to San Diego to get out of the heat. But since we are not financially able to do that we have planned our vacations during the next couple of months to make our Summer here more bearable. We are going to Atlanta, Georgia next week and then to Atlantic City, New Jersey in July!
We just booked our flights today to New Jersey! YIPEE! I am so excited that we will be taking a visit to see my husband’s family in South Jersey at the end of July. It has been quite a while since we have been able to visit them and I know my husband will enjoy going home for a bit. They also live 20 minutes from the beach which is always a nice perk 🙂
Do you have any Summer vacation plans for you or your family? If so, where are you headed to? I would love to find a place that could become a tradition to visit every year.
Today I started snipping off pieces of my beautiful Moss Rose plant in hopes of making lots of minnie plants from them. I did a test run two days ago with a longer branch that had fallen off -I buried it about 2 inches below the soil and watered it…today I pulled it up to check for roots and voila! it had tiny little roots growing already! So today I snipped four pieces, pulled off about two inches worth of their leaves and planted them in an antique metal tray to watch them hopefully take root and bloom. It was 103 degrees here yesterday but is supposed to stay in the 90’s for the next week or so, hopefully they will not get scorched while they are in this delicate replanting phase.
Here are a few pictures of my efforts so far
I am so excited!…our wedding is currently featured on Style Me Pretty Georgia’s Website. I used their website religiously to get inspiration for our wedding and recently I got up the courage to submit our wedding to them to hopefully get featured on their website. I was so excited when they emailed me back saying we were going to be on Style Me Pretty Georgia. YAY! So check out the post and definitely check out your region on StyleMePretty.com ..I got so many of my vendors and detail ideas from their website.
Can I just share with you how our Friday has been so far? This morning I was upstairs cleaning in our guest room with the balcony door open and I started to hear tons of little buzzing noises-almost the sound that house flies make when they keep smacking themselves up against the window. I went to the open door and stood their in disbelieve. There were hundreds, HUNDREDS of bees buzzing around in the courtyard between our houses. I felt like I was in Egypt witnessing a plague! I quickly slammed the door shut with only one bee making it in. Phew! I ran downstairs to get a closer look out the window and to watch the show that was unfolding before me. There were tons of bees just swarming around like a cloud in between our houses, then suddenly, like they had all gotten tired of flying at the same they all picked a branch to pile on together and rest. Of course my first thought is to google “bee swarms” and this is what I found.
I guess when a colony gets too big for just one queen, the extra bees fly off with their new queen and she becomes tired while flying so she will pick a branch to rest on and all of the other bees swarm around her on the branch to be able to communicate with her “pheromones” (the way they communicate with each other). The swarm will then send out scout bees to try to find a new spot for their hive. “well isn’t this convenient”. Usually this “swarming” lasts from one to three days before they decide to move. (has anyone else watched My Girl).
About an hour after all this began, the bees are still “resting” on the tree branch so I calmly and slowly walked past them to my car and when I returned a few hours later they were STILL there on the branch..a huge, black dot!
I suppose another family called the county because a man in a bee suit promptly showed up and showered the poor bees down. I couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for these poor creatures. I was hoping that they were just going to relocate them but judging by the piles of bees on the ground still I’m guessing they poisoned them. There are still quite a few swarming around the branch and the bee suit man is gone…hmmm. Is he coming back?!?!
Hope you have an eventful Friday in a much different way 🙂 See you next week!
